ToGa have generously donated one Mobile Clinic to The Cape of Good Hope Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Named the Snoop mobile in honour of their dog Snoopy.
South Africa, while a nation of animal lovers, unfortunately has serious dog and cat welfare issues.
Research shows that 60% of South Africans own at least one pet, including 9.1 million dogs, but
despite this, around one in five dogs are thought to be homeless. And while the country has a
developed veterinary infrastructure, there are only around 70 vets per one million people, with
most working in agriculture and farm animals. As a rabies endemic country South Africa,
continues to suffer active rabies outbreaks in many provinces, which sadly leads to human
fatalities in those communities, with fatalities disproportionately affecting children
The SPCA Mobile Clinics play a crucial role in fulfilling our promise to deliver essential care to those who need it the most. These mobile units travel to informal settlements and low-income areas around Cape Town to offer primary veterinary care and educate pet owners on responsible pet care practices. The clinics provide essential services such as dipping, deworming and vaccinations. Pets that require sterilization or have illnesses or injuries are transported to our Animal Hospital for additional treatment and are returned to their owners once they have recovered.
Through this initiative, more than 40,000 animals will receive essential veterinary care over a three-year period, creating measurable and lasting impact across vulnerable communities.
The programme will commence in January 2026, marking the beginning of a three-year initiative delivering vital care to thousands of animals.
